Artist Statement

I make sculptures with a variety of mediums including wax, resin, ceramics, glass and aberrant pearls. They are abstract organic forms that have reference to the human body, internal organs, living organisms.

The glazing component in my ceramic pieces further develop the uniqueness of each of my sculptures. I use both commercial and self-made glazes, mix them freely to get unexpected results. I embrace these randomly occurring results and the lifelikeness that they bring to my work.

I am particularly excited about the unplanned and unpredictable aspect in my work. Though I conceive of my work ahead of time, part of my process when making art is intuitive and often in response to my materials. Although process and materials are very important aspects of my work, the content is driven by my interest in the female form and nature objects. Ultimately, it’s a marriage between form, process, and the female body.
